Publication Mentoring Workshop

Purpose of the Workshop
The New Scholars Publication Mentoring Workshop (NSPMW) is a unique opportunity for doctoral candidates in the final dissertation writing stage, recent doctoral graduates, and early career professionals to discuss and refine a paper for publication with experienced scholars and peers. Participants will be provided feedback, particularly on the theoretical framework, methodology, and findings. The NSPMW will also contribute to strengthening links among peers in the field of Comparative and International education.

Eligibility Criteria for Applicants

o apply for the workshop, you must fit all of the following criteria:

●A Ph.D. or Ed.D. Candidate in the final dissertation writing stage or a recent graduate/early career professional (who graduated not more than 4 years ago);

●A member of CIES, registered/planning to register for CIES 2024 Miami (on-site); and,

●Have not previously participated in a NSPMW.

●Be committed to reading and engaging substantively with other group members’ publication drafts both prior to and during the workshop.

All proposals should contribute to the advancement of theory, practice, methodology or fieldwork in comparative and international education.

Proposal Criteria

To participate in this workshop, you must submit a proposal abstract of 750 words by July 10th at 11:59 PM Eastern Daylight Time through Submit Your Proposal Now on the official website of CIES 2024 and follow instructions to finish all steps of your submission.  Please make sure to submit your proposal to “Publication Workshop” under “Submit Proposal to New Scholars Committee Mentoring Workshops”.  The abstract must include:

●An indication of whether you are a final stage doctoral student or a recent graduate at the time of the conference. To enable a blind review process, please, do not mention your name;

●The objectives/purposes of the research;

●The main research question(s);

●Theoretical or conceptual framework used and its connection to the literature;

●Research design, data collection methods and analytic techniques; and,

●Results and evidence to support conclusions.

PLEASE NOTE: These criteria are different from CIES general proposals criteria. However, your research must be related to the field of comparative and international education. Participants who apply for this workshop may not submit the same proposal to the general pool, but you may apply to the general pool with a separate proposal of the same study.

Time/Format of Workshop
Participants will be selected to participate in a NSPMW session, which will take place at an agreed time during CIES 2024 in Miami. Each workshop group will have 4-6 presenters and 1-2 faculty or professional mentors.

If you are selected to participate in the workshop

●You will be required to submit a publication draft of not more than 8000 words, excluding references.

●You will be required to submit 3-5 open-ended questions by the date set by the organizers. The publication draft will be circulated to all group members of the NSPMW.

●Please keep in mind that prior to the NSPMW, you will be required to read all the papers in your assigned group (not more than four) and to prepare comments on the questions your group members pose about their drafts
